KELP SUSHI JOINT - THE DECOR
At KELP, we present simple, delicious, and environmentally friendly sushi and aim to portray that in our menu names and décor.
Our philosophy of Fresh, Local, and Sustainable Sushi is a simple and modern idea. The décor designed by Lisa Gilmore, owner of Lisa Gilmore Design wanted to create a homey yet modern, urban environment to showcase the artistic nature of the rolls. She wanted the restaurant to resemble some of the raw spaces you might see in large urban areas such as New York and Chicago that are often not seen in South Florida. Featuring smoky gray, black and cream as well as natural woods and oxidized metals, Gilmore wanted some visual interest in such pieces as the black brick wall and plaid accents on furnishings but not so much that it would overpower the main focus: the food.
Our goal is to present a warm but simple environment without a lot of unnecessary bells and whistles. The focus of our restaurant isn’t ostentatious decoration; it’s fresh, great-tasting sushi. This makes KELP the perfect environment for any occasion: date, business lunch, quiet dinner, or celebration.
Take a moment to look over our menu names. You will notice that we use natural, earthy names such as the Bronze Pebble, Red Forest, and Desert Oasis. This is to display our dedication to the environment through the use of sustainable food sources.
The vintage photos you see on the website and in the restaurant are
actual family photos of owner Wesley Chiu. Gilmore had them printed
onto wood with gilded frames to give them an even more authentic and
historical appeal. KELP is dedicated to Chiu’s parents, who always
supported him along the way. The photos are a reminder to him and the
guests he welcomes to his restaurant of the importance of family and
friends. Ask him about the photos and he’s happy to share the
